So here are some things to consider oh I don't know - in hour 27.
I'm going to wait until I hear more. This STUDENT ATHLETE has not been to one class, or practice, or academic counselor meeting on campus at UF.
Football season ended for this kid in 2017. No coach, no peers, all he has to do is graduate. No one checking up on him, pushing him, urging him on during spring weight training.
Can anyone speak to his home life? Anyone?
He is probably 8 weeks from arriving on campus. Coach Mullen and others can't help him his last semester in high school, where he gets his milk served in a carton.
Not a peep - no indicators (arrest, issues, in school suspensions) nada.No disciplinary issues of any kind that are know to fat slob fans.
So yesterday he gets into some argument with his GF. Does he lay a hand on her? Does he stupidly follow her? No and yes.
So he gets what amounts to a RAWV and a $500 bail. Which BTW open container violations get sometimes the same (sometimes).
And what do the HARD ASSES on this board suggest? BOOT HIM. nevermind that this event is less than 30 hours old.
I'm truly ashamed of some of the comments on here. Really. No one, much less the HBC who gets paid $4Million dollars or so to run the program knows what happened a DAY AGO. but no #badword# some guys want him gone.
This is a stadium steps running punishment if it happens AT UF WHICH IT DID NOT.
So, let's go ahead and make sure Mullen and all other future coaches baby fricking sit these kids for 5 months after signing day ends. Because it's not a hard enough job as it is.
I coached a varsity kid who committed to play D2 soccer. His folks were no shows. He missed practice because he was being a parent to his siblings. He asked me to help with getting his siblings food. But hey, if he (or Justin Watkins) make a mistake, #badword# em right? While in high school and before landing on campus.
So do this - stand on the sidelines with me for a season. Drive a kid home after a game to an area of town where you are damn terrified to be alone in. Pay for cleats because no one else can. Drug dealers down the street. Anyone? Really -- I need the assistants.
Meet the kid and his family on his home turf. Bars on the doors. Worry on mom's face about where food will come from. THEN raise #badword#ing hell over some self righteous bull#badword# about giving some kid his walking papers.
