Message Replied To ========== That's something you don't see every day. On my way home from work, looked up and saw a fully restored B-17 climbing out of it's takeoff. Commemorative Air Force is in Jenks with their Flying Fortress. Very impressive. ============================== My small town Baptist preacher was a waste gunner on a B-17 in WWII. He apparently was deadly at aiming ( I mean, he WAS from Tennessee) and shot down several German fighters and completed all 25 missions. He was young and brash and apparently quite cocky. The morning before he was supposed to leave for stateside, one of the crews was a waste gunner short and he volunteered to take his place. Several hours later he was shot down and spent the rest of the war as a POW. He said THAT is when he made a deal with God. Get me out of here and I'm yours for life. He followed through..... Awesome man. |
