This holiday should be about reflection and appreciation. When we don't acknowledge and respect the cost of life...but instead romanticize war and thump our chests as some chicken hawks like to do...our society becomes more loose with the men and women who serve and is more comfortable sending them into harm's way.

Those who sacrificed everything deserve the highest honors and our promise not to use soldiers as tools for personal or pecuniary gains, but to instead rely on them and call them to the front ONLY when we need them. They will do what is asked of them because that is who they are and what they do. Our promise to them should be that we will not take advantage of them and will instead honor them...even though they don't ask for our appreciation and value.

This post isn't intended to comment on any particular political party or specific politician. Both sides of the aisle have been careless throughout our history with the lives of our bravest. 

Today is a day of thanks and appreciation for the sacrifices those men and women made for our lifestyle, our country. It's a day we should all take to heart.
