"Being a jerk is not how the system works...." |
|
Message Replied To ========== Hey, centrists, tell me how this is wrong Time for Ds to turn the tables on the GOP and their dirty tricks? I love Michelle O, but I think when they go low, we go for the jugular. ============================== I've been reading this awesome book lately, only halfway through, but highly recommend!....

The author tells the story of how LBJ was one of our most successful Presidents in advancing his agenda because he'd been in congress for a long time and practically every congressman knew him liked him and owed him a favor or three. On the other hand Jimmy Carter was an outsider to Washington that was how he ran and he couldn't get anything done cause nobody knew him.
It made me think why in the hell is being an outsider such a political advantage these days? That's not how the system works. It should also be plainly obvious that treating political opponents like mortal enemies is not how the system works either. American politics requires winning friends and influencing people.
Reagan and Bill Clinton were masters of it. They advanced their agendas by reaching across the aisle never spitting across it.
