Even though on first glance it appears this man's vendetta against the newspaper was personal, it should remind us that there are those in our society who live in that blurry line between stable and dangerous. Certainly, the responsibility for this act lands squarely on the man who committed it; but we can't help but wonder how many others like him are teetering on the edge.

When our leaders use threatening or provocative language -- like Trump's painting the media as  an enemy of the people, like Maxine Waters suggesting people should harass and  intimidate government employees -- it can incite those like this man to turn ugly words into horrible acts.  If anyone should set the example of how to act civil, it should be our civil servants. They need to do better. And we need to set a higher standard for those we put in those positions of leadership.
