First, when a candidate runs an ad -- truthful or not -- you know where the ad is coming from (Paid for by...).  The Russian ads were disguised as legitimate news stories and the like, and were futher bolstered by having Russian bots promote the ads as though they were genuine people.  All of this was designed to make the ads look like real news and not some campaign ad that you will likely take with healthy skepticism.   Now, I'm not saying these ads swung the election or anything, since the people who were passing these ads on to me were going to vote for Trump anyway, but it's still not just a regular political ad that people should know is slanted.

Second, and more importantly, is the fact that this was a foreign government that was actively and illegally attempting to sow discord among the American public and the election process.  That is not particularly shocking, but it is not something we should tolerate, either.  We know there are Russian spies in our country (and US spies in Russia), but when we catch them we expose them and make Russia pay for it in some way.   The same should happen here.
