Some of the negative tone has more to do with 8 years of futility at the QB position being lumped onto 1 guy with only 7 or 8 career starts than what Franks will actually do in 2018. Franks was red shirt freshman on a team weakened by suspensions and injuries. It is a team game. Also a mid year coaching change and quite frankly a staff who botched the QB rotation and offense coordination  all season long didn’t help.  

Yes Franks has to still prove he can play but he should have a clean slate. 

Franks primarily played against passing defenses in fewest allowed passing yards that ranked, Michigan #1, Tennessee #3, UGA #8, LSU #21, UAB #22, and FSU #29. 

If you want lowest QB rating against, Michigan #3, LSU #9, FSU #10, UGA #15, UAB #18, USCe #37.

It wasn’t the easiest slate of games plus playing without your best RB and WR and eventually a patchwork offensive line. 

A year older, maybe a better system for him, and a better team around him might make a big difference.  Let’s see what he can do. If he continues to make poor decisions and struggle in the pocket then he will lose the job.
