 If your daughter approaches you 20 years later and says "Dad, I was sexually assaulted as a teenager"

Is your response -- "Honey, I don't believe you because it has been 20 years and you've said nothing"

Or

Is your response -- "Honey, I'm unsure that happened and there is no sense in damaging that man's reputation/career over something you can't prove" 

Answer: I support her but I advise her that she needs some corroborating evidence before going after the guy. Her claim alone is not enough.

Question for you: your son is up to get his dream job, when some woman comes forth claiming he raped her 20 years earlier. She can not give details of when, she can not say where and the only other person she named as a witness says he can not ever recall the event. She never told anyone else about the event at the time but, decades later during psychologic therapy, she remembers the event but does not tell the therapist the name. Close friends of your son give testimony that he has never exhibited that kind of behavior as long as they have known him and no other women come forward. Your son says he has never acted in that way and does not even recall ever meeting her. Are you ok with your son’s career and reputation being destroyed over it? Do you assume he is guilty because he is a man and the accuser is female?

BTW: this is my last Lounge post for a while. My question is rhetorical for you.
