Here is my take so far.  

• The allegations are so unsubstantiated as to have no effect on my opinion of him.  If the FBI turns up something different then I'll change my mind.
• The ABA said that BK was "well qualified", their highest ranking.  They went on to say that "His integrity is absolutely unquestioned.  He is what he seems, very decent, humble and honest.  He is just the best-brilliant, a great writer, fair, and he is open-minded."
• This brings us to his "temperment" during the hearing.  Think about the situation he was put in.  An incredibly weak accusation that not only effects his Supreme Court nomination but has the potential for ruining his life.  Dershowitz, in today's WSJ, says that "Judge Kavanaugh is on trial for his life.  At stake are his career, his family, his legacy, and a reputation earned over many decades as a lawyer and judge". If that were me, I would go in guns blazing.  I would also show anger and emotion, especially with the rougues gallery of liars that sit on that committee.  I will criticize him for the Clinton remarks (the Soros comments were spot on).  

So we are left to look at the totatlity of this man's career, one I would have been proud to live.  One I would have been proud if my son lived it.  We are to throw all of this in the trash heap because he was angry and emotional at a hearing about a weak allegation that could have ruined his life.  

I had no opinion of the man prior to the hearings but again I'll quote Dershowitz "But this is no longer about who would make the best Supreme Court Justice.  It is about the most fundamental issues of fairness this country has faced since the McCarthy era, when innocent people were accused of trying to overthrow the government and had their lives ruined based on false accusations, while being denied all semblance of due process or fairness."

Kavnaugh does not have any type of right to sit on the bench, and nothing is being deprived from him.   Our selection process for Supreme Court Justices is not very democratic, and is based quite a bit on timing and luck.

His life, reputation, etc., etc. are not being ruined.   If the Senate doesn't confirm him, then he goes back to being a mostly anonymous appellate judge and disappears from the public eye.  He may lose some supporters from his circle of friends and colleagues, but he will gain some as well.   He might even get a job at Fox News in the future, if he is inclined to leave the bench and seek celebrity status.

Our American fundamentals are not at play here.   This was a job interview; you screw up the interview, you don't get the job, not matter how good your credentials looked on paper.  

I don't care how many excuses people want to give Kavanaugh for his behavior on Thursday, it showed a lack of respect for the legal process and for the oath he took before testifying.  I cannot abide that from any member of the legal profession, and especially not from a Supreme Court Justice.
