Summary thus far:

Overall ESPN rates the FL offense 39th in Total Offense, compared with 124th last year. That is an ASTOUNDING 85 SPOTS HIGHER!!!!!

PPG: 34.4 (37th) This is an amazing state given our inconsistency on offense through the first 6 games.  Last year we were 109th at 22.1 PPG. Imagine what this number will look like when yesterday's performance becomes more common. A stunning 12.3 PPG improvement.

YPG Offense:  Last year we were a pedestrian 336 ypg total offense (110th) with a 180 (102nd)/156 (75th) pass/rush split. So far this year 408 ypg (66th) with a 211 (92nd)/198 (43rd) split.

Passing internals: Last year 55.8% completion rate (96th) with a 6.3 yards per attempt (112th). Currently these numbers are as follows: 58% completion rate (87th) with a 7.9 yds per attempt average (47th). Marginally better completion rate but a very strong improvement in yds per attempt

Rushing internals: Currently we are averaging 5.1 yds per attempt (27th) Last year we averaged 4.3 ypa (67th).

So we have become a much more solid rushing team and a little better passing team. With a much higher TD/INT ratio.

What was the big difference in offense yesterday? #rd down conversions.  Before yesterday we had an abysmal 35% FD rate on third down.  Yesterday we were something like 13/16.  Two punts. It was enough to push us to 41.4% and to #52 in that regard.  That leads directly to running 92 plays total and silly offense numbers. BTW, we are #2 for fourth down conversions.

This brings up the whole focus about drive killing sacks and penalties. The Gators are #10 for the most penalties and #11 for the most penalized yards at 497 yds given away this season.

If the next  5 games are similar to the difficulty of the last 5 games and we continue to improves we should do very well.  The 400 yds per game mark and improving 3rd down conversion percentage will be keys. 

One other peculiar item, over the last 5 games we have run an increasing number of plays each game with CSU being 44 and Vandy being 92.  The average number is 72.5. We have only made that once -- against Vandy. Also we have averaged 5.4 yds per offensive play against UK, MSU, and LSU.  (that is about the 67th mark and we did that against very good/ranked SEC teams). 6.2 against Vandy, 7.3 against UT and 7.75 against CSU. Overall we are averaging 6.0 yds per offensive play and that translates into a tie with Oregon for the #30 spot.  

Keys going forward...IMPROVE COMPLETION PERCENTAGE. Do this and passing blows up with an almost 8yds per attempt skyrocketing to over 10ypa! Stop drive killing penalties on offense and third and longs...3rd down conversion rate blows up ad with a 6.0yds per play average, offense explodes. Do these things and a top 25 like offense in the second half of the  season is not only possible, but likely.
