"The Florida-Georgia game is MORE than just a game"

I am one of the old timers who love beating Georgia anywhere, anytime and any place.  1968 was my first Florida-Georgia game.  My dad and I attended a rain soaked fiasco and I would leave the Gator Bowl as a lifetime Gator fan.  GATORS lost 51-0.  I despised Georgia, I hated the woof calls.  I promised one day I would go to the University of Florida.

I graduated 1977 and am currently retired in a small town east of Dallas, Texas.

I worked for WTLV as a cameraman for 12 years starting in 1975.  Yes I was there on the sidelines for the Dickey years.  The 4th and Dumb.  The PO-MOUTHING of Vince Dooley. 1980.  I was on the 10 yard line on the Georgia side.  I was beaming and excited to see my Gators gonna finally win the SEC.  The big one.  You could feel it in the stadium.  The Dawgs were backed up on their 7 yard line.  93 ticks on the clock.  I remember it like it happened yesterday.  The pass over the middle.  Lindsey Scott, Lindsey Scott, Lindsey Scott.  How in the Hell did that happen.  I swear the ground below my feet shook in the Gator Bowl that day.  I walked over to the Florida bench to videotape their reaction.  You can only imagine.  Their hearts had been ripped out. Grown men crying.  I wanted Florida to beat Georgia so bad.

I never thought I would see the Gators beat Georgia when the SEC Championship was on the line.  In 1984 I travelled to Lexington, KY with the Gaylon Hall led Gators.  They won that day and some memories of I thought.

I moved away from Gainesville in 1986 to Dallas.  The next 25 years I hopped on a plane Thursday morning and headed to Jax.  Played golf Thursday and Friday.  Went to he game on Saturday.  Played golf on Sunday and flew back on the 6:40 flight home.  I was truly blessed to see so many games.  But the sting of 1980 was always there.  The networks always reminded of the 1980 game. Don't worry CBS, it will NEVER leave me.  Then it happed.  We hired a coach who HATED the Georgia Bulldogs more than I did. Spurrier told his players that Jacksonville and the Georgia game was a home game for them.  He was right. Coach won 12 of 13 from the hated team from the north.  Beat em badly too.  At the Gator Bowl, in Athens, In Gainesville...... Anywhere, Anyplace and Anytime.  I loved sending the Dawgs home early from Jacksonville.  To see the faces of defeat. It never got old.  You can have your FSU, LSU who cares SU rivalry. I'll take Florida-Georgia game every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Good luck today Gators.  I will be screaming from by living room. You will hear me from Dallas to Jax.  BEAT THEM DAMN DOGS !!!!!!
