Message Replied To ========== Mike Bianchi on Gators... Better than his usual drivel... ![]() https://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/open-mike/os-sp-gators-georgia-mike-bianchi-1028-story.html ==============================And it is found in this quote- “We have to recruit that way, and we will,” Mullen said after the game. By "that way", he means like UGA. I'll be the first to say that it's always better to win than to lose, but sometimes great things happen as a result of defeats. In this case, what UF needed from this loss (because we must learn from every W and L) is the lesson that we don't yet have the talent to beat the elite programs. Mac didn't learn that lesson until it was too late. He didn't work for elite recruits, apparently he made them demonstrate interest in us before he was interested in them. Mac also won the SECE his first two seasons at UF. The SECE was terrible during those years and winning the division meant being offered up as sacrifice to Satan...err I mean Saban. In other words, for the bulk of Mac's time at UF he and his staff operated as if UF didn't have to compete on the recruiting trails with the best programs...because winning the SECE was good enough. We saw on Saturday what happens when lesser talent shows up and competes against elite talent. There is ABSOLUTELLY NO QUESTION in my mind that our squad was the better coached and better prepared team on Saturday. Corso saw it too with his comments that UF answered more questions than UGA did in that game. The ONLY thing missing from our program is depth of talent across all of our positions. Mullen sees that. Mac never did. Mac never had a response like Mullen's on Saturday. If Mullen can make good on his intent to recruit like UGA, he will have as many years at UF as he wants. |
