"There were no rules on how the dislike button should be used."

Message Replied To ==========

My point is that I've seen my fair share of reasonable posts disliked, whereas I have...

tried to limit it to basically smack-level quality posts.  Have I always succeeded?  No, but I just felt it was a way to express disapproval of said smack without engaging in smack myself, but YMMV.==============================

There was no requirement that a post be unreasonable. It was entirely up to the user to determine the criteria for earning a dislike, which is why I had no problem with the way you used it. Even if you were the only person who understood why you disliked, that's fine, it was sufficient for you. The problem, IMO, is that some decided it was important to keep score on likes and dislikes, and some made a lot of assumptions as to what a dislike meant. It became a way to categorize and criticize those who chose to use it, as if it were somehow important to "out" those who chose to dislike a post. So even though you were using the button as intended, you came under scrutiny because people didn't like the way you used it.
