"We need to see who we sign and what transfers if any we get"

Now that we know who's gone for NFL, someone set up our roster for next year

How's our OL? DL? Those are two that will make or break us next year, IMO.

==============================

It would be very helpful to get an OL and a DL transfer to offset the losses of Polite and Taylor.  We look like we have a chance at a couple.

The first is Jonothan Greenard who is a pretty proven DE from Louisville.  He sat out last year with an injury but was very productive before that.  He played there under Grantham.  He would be eligible to leave and play immediately as a grad transfer in January AFAIK.

The second is Stewart Reese who is a 2 year starter at Offensive Tackle for Mississippi State.  He is on track to graduate next summer.  He's the older brother of the younger David Reese, is from Florida originally and was recruited by this staff and played under them at Mississippi State.  It is said that mama wants both her boys closer to home.

We'll see but both would be day 1 starters for us if they came.  At OL we have Buchanan and Heggie who have started several games.  We could really use another veteran.  Banks and Bleich look like the next two up.  I've heard Stone Forsythe and Gouraige have looked OK at Tackle.  Another year in the strength program will help Gouraige.  Between those 6 and if we could add Reese, I think that would form a solid nucleas for an OL that should be at least decent.  Obviously it would be helpful if some like Moore or Delance stepped up.

RB is in good shape as long as Perine returns which he will.  We get Davis back and Pierce is availabe.  We'll see about Clement and Wright.

WR returns everybody.

TE should be in good shape considering we've been landing a 4 star guy every year for 3 years in a row here plus we have Lucas Krull who came in as a Juco last year.

QB you know about.  Obviously Franks is our guy.

DL - I'm pretty sure Zuniga returns....we really need to not lose him.  If we get Greenard on the other side and with Carter, Clayton and Moon we should be set at DE.  At Tackle we have Shuler and Campbell.  Behind them Dunlap is a decent player.  Its time for Conliffe and Slaton to chit or get off the pot.  Slaton particularly needs to either drop 30 pounds and get in the best shape of his life and improve his quickness OR he really needs to think hard about shifting over to OL where he was rated higher coming out of HS.  At the rate he is going, he's not going to make it to the NFL and for him, that needs to be paramount.  Time to step up TJ.  We'll see what Malik Langham brings to the table after being redshirted last year.

LB - David Reese the older returns at MLB.  I really liked what I saw from Houston and Miller this year.  Pretty sure Houston starts next year and Miller will play a lot.  We now have a bunch of guys here.  We'll see if any of them can play or if one of the 4 freshmen we signed can step in and play.  Three of those freshmen were top 200 recruits so they're fairly highly rated.

DB - obviously Marco's return to health is critical.  His rehab is coming fine and he was already running by the time of the bowl practices.  It was the other knee from the one he blew out in high school so at least it doesn't look like a chronic problem with one knee...and obviously he rehabbed great from the first injury so there's good reason for optimism about his recovery.  CJ Henderson is a stud on the other side.  Trey Dean is going to start somewhere.  Be it nickel or safety...and he can alway play corner again if needed.  He's far too good to leave on the bench.  There have been guys saying a lot of good things about Amari Burney too at that Nickel spot.  I thought Stewart and Davis both came along nicely at the safety spots.  IF we can add in Steele and Elam to this mix, we look to be pretty damn good in the secondary.  We had little depth this past year and it just killed us when Henderson got dinged in the UGA game.  They went right at his backup all game long and feasted.

So....on Defense picking up Greenard, Steele, Elam would make a significant difference.  Those are not in the bag as of yet.  On Offense, it would be really nice to pick up Reese and that's not certain either.  Picking up these 4 players would IMO have a significant positive impact on the team for next season.

Beginning in late 1862, James Phelan, Joseph Bradford, and Reuben Davis wrote to Jefferson Davis to express concern that some opponents were claiming the war "was for the defense of the institution of slavery" (Cooper, Jefferson Davis, American, pp. 479-480, 765). They called those who were making this claim "demagogues." Cooper notes that when two Northerners visited Jefferson Davis during the war, Davis insisted "the Confederates were not battling for slavery" and that "slavery had never been the key issue" (Jefferson Davis, American, p. 524).

Precious few textbooks mention the fact that by 1864 key Confederate leaders, including Jefferson Davis, were prepared to abolish slavery. As early as 1862 some Confederate leaders supported various forms of emancipation. In 1864 Jefferson Davis officially recommended that slaves who performed faithful service in non-combat positions in the Confederate army should be freed.  Robert E. Lee and many other Confederate generals favored emancipating slaves who served in the Confederate army.  In fact, Lee had long favored the abolition of slavery and had called the institution a "moral and political evil" years before the war (Recollections and Letters of Robert E. Lee, New York: Barnes and Noble Books, 2003, reprint, pp. 231-232). By late 1864, Davis was prepared to abolish slavery in order to gain European diplomatic recognition and thus save the Confederacy.  Duncan Kenner, one of the biggest slaveholders in the South and the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee of the Confederate House of Representatives, strongly supported this proposal. So did the Confederate Secretary of State, Judah Benjamin. Davis informed congressional leaders of his intentions, and then sent Kenner to Europe to make the proposal.  Davis even made Kenner a minister plenipotentiary so as to ensure he could make the proposal to the British and French governments and that it would be taken seriously.
