"a hopefully rational evaluation of the Zook matter"

His tenure is difficult to evaluate to this point. On the one hand; he arguably was unqualifed for such a prestigious job--otoh-he's a proven recruiter--and had some success as a DC with more as a STC in the demanding NFL--otoh SOS demoted him as a college DC--otoh some felt it wasnt fair as the talent level was thin-- in regards to talent level-on the one hand a near record number of Gators drafted last year and with this year's haul, maybe as good a two year exodous in history or near that--so is the NFL a bad evaluator of talent?--otoh it seems clear we have been bereft of depth and talent at D line and linebacker--otoh how could a no talent bunch beat some good teams and then play so poorly in other games?-- and how do we deal with his first recruiting year--does it count?--do we say well he therefore needs until 2005 or 2006 or ? before he can be judged?--is he learning on the job?--will he get better?--does he need to get better or just get better talent?--do recruiting ratings mean anything--if so how much? and these things just scratch the surface (the relatively good and poor playling and gameplans and adjustments could take up paragraphs) bottom line--a difficult situation to get ahold of--how can one evaluate his potential for the future--and isnt that what it's all about with him?--probably not with certainty. We all have our opinions and will await the future to get some kind of confirmation. I suspect that most, if not all of those that think he isnt up to the task, would actually like to be proven wrong, after all, I for one, have a larger investment in GATOR paraphrenalia and psychic involvement than I have in ego investment in being proven 'right'. Replacing Zook just means more anxiety for the short term. IF he can succeed we are clearly better off with him than a replacement that has an equal ability to succeed, however if he cannot the sooner he is replaced the better. If we had a crystal ball, we'd know what to do, for now we are all just guessing, and as we, collectively even have probably no ability to influence his future, we can only sit back, watch and hope.
