I really, really believe tonight well could prove a meaningful turning point for this team. Bama is always tough on their floor, and I feel like we really got our opponent's best effort tonight. I thought Billy did a great job coaching and our guys played hard. Even had we lost, I think the effort tonight - standing alone - garners significant promise.
Some other random thoughts:
1. Roberson is a stud. I wouldn't trade him for any other player in college basketball.
2. Drejer is a difference maker. Real original insight, I know. But I can't believe how much better our team is when he's on the floor.
3. If we're going to have real post-season success, we need to become a better, or at least more consistent, defensive team.
4. Notwithstanding Bama's fans (and cartoonishly animated coach), I thought the game was officiated pretty well.
5. There are few things more disappointing than your opponent hitting the front end of a one-and-one.
6. There are few things more frustrating than our players missing the front end of a one-and-one.
7. With the youth of this team and our success so far, people who question Billy's coaching ability are, IMHO, sorely misguided.
8. I never thought Lee would ever emerge as such an imposing inside presence.
9. Matt Walsh makes me nervous.
10. I'm tired of color commentary about the fact Matt's girlfriend is a Playmate.
11. Our black road uni's need to take a permanent vacation.
12. Gator basketball is more interesting than football recruiting.
I had a few more riveting observations during the game, but I can't remember what they were. I'm overjoyed about this win. Keep it going, Gators!
