"Maybe we can learn something from this..."

Just got done reading the Booty rant from last night. Although I agree with Booty's analogy, I think he carried it on a little to far and long. Booty's little tantrum below is the perfect example of something that's been discussed here again and again. It's about tolerance. Booty has posted here for a long time and established himself as an OK guy and a generally good-natured rival. To have him show up and come off like a smack-talking jerk is a bit surprising, but it's viewed in the context of his well-established board persona, and that makes it easier to tolerate. It's when a new poster shows up and posts such crap that the board as a whole demonstrates little patience. Booty would be very unlikely to be banned for saying anything, but a new poster saying the same things would be viewed as nothing but a flamer. The same could be said of new Gator posters who come along and start ranting or complaining without giving us an opportunity to get to "know" them as something other than an obnoxious jerk. When such a poster is then lambasted, some folks say that the board is intolerant of differing opinions. No, the board is intolerant of obnoxious jerks. When a poster has been around long enough to establish that "obnoxious jerk" does not define their entire existence, we're plenty tolerant. Heck, we put up with Albert, don't we?
