Having taught Willie Williams, I was surprised -- along with many others at Carol City High -- to learn that he had a criminal history. Willie is no braggart of his past crimes. He has earnestly tried to put them behind him, obey the law and focus on his grades, SAT scores and football. Willie visited the University of Florida under the supervision of the coaches and players. Are they not responsible for allowing him to drink alcohol? WOW! He didn't brag about his past crimes? What a hero. He tried to put them behind him and obey the law? Then why does he have 3 new complaints, in VIOLATION of his PROBATION and why was he ARRESTED AGAIN? Are the coaches and players supposed to watch him every second of the day and night? Isn't he a legal adult? Doesn't he have a mind of his own? Isn't he at all responsible for his own choices in life? Nah, its all Florida's fault. Yeah, that's it. As a student, Willie is intense, bright, affectionate and uncommonly eager to make others feel good about themselves. His smile is wide and infectious, and he reflects most of the football praise back on his teammates. I wonder if he was trying to make the girl he sexually battered feel good about herself when he told her "who do you think you are? You're a dime a dozen beotch." Willie is trying to make something of himself. He is an awesome young man with great talent and potential. Let him pay a fine for the prank with the fire extinguishers and apologize to the offended girl. Then the media should back off to let him play ball and get an education. What's he trying to make of himself? A career criminal? Uhhh, sorry, saying an insincere "I'm sorry" is not sufficient to cover sexual battery. Willie enjoys the respect of almost everyone in the Carol City community, despite the fact that he has hugged many of us without prior consent. Character? Criminal character maybe. Has he sexually battered any of you or walked up and punched any of you in the face several times for no reason at all? So I invite any and all to come and learn about Willie Williams before condemning him. Let us tell you about him.
