but let me just share this about the young man.
Aaron (Lil' Mims) is fairly close with many of the Gator players and coaches. And from time to time, he will share something with me that touches his heart and then touches mine. We have that sort of Father-Son relationship. Anyways, he was so impressed with something that Channing did these past few days he felt that he wanted to share it with me....and I've decided to share it with you.
As you may know or should be aware of by now, I'm not much for talking "out of turn" here on the VS on "internal" things in the Gator FB program, especially about some personal issues that I might be aware of concerning Gator athletes. But this one is different, imo. This is something that one seldoms if ever reads about in the morning Sports pages or hears about in conversation.
This past Friday, the Gator Football "Juniors" Summer Camp concluded. For 3 days, some 300+ Young Gator wannbees (ages 9-13) were housed and afforded an on-field look at what it's like to be a Gator player.
Aaron worked it, as he has done with many Gator Summer Camps for the past four Summers. But this is what truly impressed him. Guess who was there, daily, on his own time, to help the youngsters and encorage them to work harder and elevate their game? Channing Crowder. He came to each and every session, on his own, to work with this age group, to be with the kids.
He didn't have to be there, and to Aaron's recollection, this was the very first time in his memeory of working summer camps that a Gator player took his own personal time to be there with and for the kids.
Aaron really likes CC! Says that he has a good heart and loves working with kids. And the kids wouldn't let him rest, all wanting his attention before, during, and after sessions. They loved him and he loved being with them.
Enjoy CC while you can, friends, cause in my opinion, he's gone to the NFL after this season. He's truly that talented.
All Gators have read or heard of his off-field problems. All Gators are impressed with his on-field talents. But now, you have heard something else about Channing Crowder, something else to be very proud of him for....something which is imo more important than what he does on Saturday afternoons.
