In the mid 90’s, the height of the Osborne and Spurrier eras collided in an attempt to claim the title of most dominant team in college football. Nebraska took a championship in ’94. The two teams met to decide the championship in ’95. Nebraska scored 63 points in a rout and even though UF won their own title a year later, people will look back at that space in time and correctly state it was Nebraska’s time of domination while UF, FSU and Tennessee sat a perch below.
Again in the mid 2000’s, UF and Nebraska squared off. This time to determine which school rich in resources and tradition could under perform, throw away any remaining momentum and generally out suck the other (the coveted “Bama-Washington” Trophy). Although UF hired a staff fully capable of competing in this latest duel, the Gators have once again fallen short. The Huskers have put their own flair on sucking, capping it with their latest “in your face, Gators!” performance with a 70 to 10 loss at Texas Tech.
Although there is still time for our staff to put something humiliating together for UGA, USC or FSU, it is quite likely UF will once again be remembered as Nebraska’s b*tch. It’s disappointing, but Big Red casts a long shadow that we just can’t seem to crawl out from underneath.
