Am I missing something?
Like many of you here, I am disappointed with the trend of 2nd half meltdowns and place that blame 100% on the coaches, ultimately Ron Zook. I am dissatified with this because it doesn't show any signs of improving. Because of that I seriously question Mr. Zook's ability to lead this team where we all want it to go.
I have spent the last few days lurking and reading everyone's reaction to the Frat incident and trying to form my own opinion based on the arguments put forth by both sides and the various articles published about the incident. As I was stuggling with how to assign responsibility to Zook and Foley (Who is ultimately responsible here - not only did he tell Zook to go handle the situation, he HIRED the man in the first place), I reflected on how my opinion of Zook has evloved over the past few years and how he is percieved by gators and non-gators alike. THis is what ultimately bothers me about all this....
The VENOM.
The seeming hatred for the man which has been espoused by many gator fans (some even before he was offically announced as head coach). Where did it come from? I just don't get it. The man has done nothing but profess his love for all things Gator since his arrival. He has worked tirelessly on the recruiting trek and in his coaching capacity. DOes ANYONE doubt he has given EVERY LAST thing he has to this program? Yet, many of you act as if Ron Zook is single handedly going to destroy it. You act as if it is his intent to drag us down. As if he is conspiring with FSU and UGA to destroy us from within.
C'mon people. Lighten up.
Do I think we need a coaching change? Based on the meltdown factor I metioned earlier, yes. However, I LIKE Ron Zook. I like who he is and what he stands for. He wants to win folks. More than all of us put together. We all know it. Can he? So far, No. So, we as a gator nation have a tough decision ahead about how much more time to allow him to prove himself. This decision should be based on results, or lack of, on the field. It should be a buisness decision in which we part ways and mutally agree that he is no longer the man for the job. Zook is a Gator. Yet, we treat him like an outsider who has come to piss on our picnic. Why is this? Has he badmouthed the university? HAs he violated any NCAA rules that will hurt the program? Has he deliberatly undermined the program by recruiting inferior athletes?
So why the venom?
