"Re: I really need to hear the story... "

Here it is:

We had her cat, and my two dogs, min. schnauzers..The cat didn't like me and the feeling was mutual.. but that had nothing to do w/the cat's demise. Anyway, during the day, the cat and the dogs were housed in the utility room, b/w kitchen and garage, with a "cat door" in the door leading into the garage. Each time the animals heard the garage door lift, they knew someone was home, and more importantly, temporary freedom was near. So, upon hearing the door motor, they would all three bust out the cat door and run out the garage door into the front yard. On The Day, I was in the car, watching the garage door rise, when it suddenly stopped, about a foot off the ground. So, not knowing whether an additional push of the button in my car would make the door continue going up, or bring it down, I waited a minute. And sure enough, my dogs scattered out into the yard...but no cat. So, I waited a few more seconds, and feeling satisfied the old cat simply wasn't coming, pushed the button. At that moment, a couple of things happened. First, the door did in fact start down. Next, the cat poked her head out the small--and rapidly closing--opening. I thought that the laser would kick in, and that the cat's head would cause the door to stop and then go back up.  But nooooooooooooooooooo, cats being cats, the cat ducked its head down to avoid the door, thus putting its head out of the laser beam and the door immediatly popped her in the back. Panicking at that moment, I pushed the door button multiple times, only to have it go up and then right back down on the cat, which was in the prone position below the door. This happened two or three times and the cat was dead. Sad deal, really. But kind of interesting to see unfold....
