"A couple of items........."

#1. UM is a private school and can accept players into the program that UF won't even allow to make an Official Visit. Let me say that again: They can't even VISIT the UF campus (officially) and yet, there is no problem in being accepted into UM. A couple of quick examples: 1. RB Frank Gore. He has a learning disability. Was not allowed to visit UF (was on his list) UM offered & got him in. 2. WR Andre Johnson. Really wanted to visit UF. Visit was actually set up a couple of times. Not allowed to even visit UF. UM offered and got him in school where he cheats with impunity with no real consequences. (He would have been kicked out of school at UF not just off the team) 3. DT Santonio Thomas - Signed with UF. Finally qualified . Came here to G-ville to play. Administration would not let him play 1st year because he had not attended Summer session B - required for all incoming Freshman. Left UF, went straight to UM. Was accepted and played immediately!! 4. One of their big OL men wanted to visit UF - Not allowed. I could mention SEVERAL other instances/players as well where UM has a big advantage over UF in accepting kids. It is not a level playing field in that regards. Not to say that UF would have gotten Gore or Johnson specifically but, it is a decided advantage for UM. Not complaining - just stating facts. We have to find a way to deal with it. #2. While UF recruiting overall could be considered very good, it has been exceptionally poor at 2 specific positions for the last 3 years and 4 of the last 5 ....... We have signed NO MLB's for the last 2 years !! and just 2 DT's in the last 2 years!! Unacceptable!! We all saw the consequences of this in the 3rd & 4th Q last Saturday. There are a TOTAL of only 7 LB's on the roster (to fill 3 or 4 positions) and 4 of those are Outside LB's Quick look at the last 3 recruiting classes. Those 2 positions in particular (DT's and MLB). Positions where I believe we have missed the boat on and it will cost us. Some "Recruitinicks" have seen this coming for a couple of years. Not for the talent we got but, because of some of the talent we "missed" on...... (IMO) Recruiting Class of 2000 (with Brock Berlin, Wille Green, Shannon Snell, Max Starks and Darrell Lee rated the #1 class) Linebackers: Travis Carrol 6-4, 240 (TFR from Alabama - Played 2 years. Gone now) Reid Flemming 6-1, 225 (Jr. 2nd string MLB now) Travis Harris 6-3 220 (Soph - Player of the year in Ga, 3rd string MLB) Defensive Tackles: Ian Scott (6-2, 300) Excellent SEC/NFL caliber DT Kenny Parker (6-3, 295) (Injured - no major contribution yet) Thomas Pittman 6-4, 275 (Played 1 year. Gone now) Bennie Mills 6-3, 285 (Left UF - Tfr to UK for PT) Santonio Thomas 6-4, 275 (Admissions wouldn't let him into UF) 2001 Recruiting Class Linebackers: Todd McCullough (6-4, 215, 4.6) An outside LB (No MLB's signed although there were 10+ top MLB's on the board) Defensive Tackles: Bryan Savelio (6-4, 290, 5.0) (JC transfer - Sr. this is his last year not much contribution last year) Sylvester McGrew (6-3, 255, 4.8) (RS freshman - still developing) 2002 Recruiting Class Linebackers Channing Crowder (6-2, 234, 4.6)    Sandy Springs, GA      a 4 star recruit - injured & not in school at UF DE/OLB Taurean Charles (6-2, 230) Miami, FL (We end up signing NONE of the top 10 or so that we were in the final 2 or 3 with. At one point, we were in the final 2 or 3 for 4 of the Top 5 LB's in the nation - What happened??) Defensive Tackles: None (That's right - NONE!! Not 1 SEC caliber DT that can qualify at UF was found in the entire country!!) DE Ray McDonald from Belle Glade, FL may move inside. Will RS at 244 lbs. ________________________________________________________________________________ So, in 3 years we have signed about 3 MLB and have "missed" out on 20+ top names at LB NONE for 2 years!! Not nearly enough Depth or Talent here to shut down a Power running game IMO. In 3 years we signed 6 DT's to fill 2 DT positions with basically only 1 the last 2 years. Only 2 DT's from the 5 signed from 3 years ago can contribute now....... That's 3 total in 3 years!! Not nearly enough depth or talent to stop a power running game. DUH!! I knew this might bite us, just did not expect it to be this early and so blatant as it was on Saturday in the 4th Q. If I am UGA, UT AU, LSU etc......... guess what my O is going to try to do all game and into the 4thQ?? There are other considerations as well but, that's a review of 2 of them......
