I don't care who was in charge when this was happening. This was not caused by Clinton or Bush or Gore or Cheyney. These companies (Enron, MCI, Global Crossing, Tyco, Healthsouth, and probably a bevy of others) were not acting at the direction of politicians, they were acting on pure old fashioned self centered greed. The people in charge became so blinded by the money they were putting in their pockets, that the long term effects of what they were doing and the effect it would have on others was completely lost. The government (under both sets of leadership) was not responsible for these companies commiting the massive fraud, but these officers in these companies destroyed many people's life savings and managed to bring the entire market down when their money making gimmicks finally caught up with them. Actually, I guess nothing ever caught up with them. The people responsible are all still fabulously wealthy. Their fraud (or complete and utter stupidity if you listen to their defenses) brought the hammer down on the average people all over this country.
