"He's right"

The trainer's name was Robert Bobby Boucher. He had a bucket of water with no top that he'd placed under the bench during practice.  A rather large lineman from back then on the FSU squad - Edgar McVatty - was sitting directly over it.  Edgar had a glandular condition that caused him to sweat like a water fountain (and also caused him to smell akin to a water buffalo in heat that had been wallowing in a four day old hippo carcas left in the Saharan sun).  Needless to say the salty oily essence that was pouring out of McVatty was dripping down into the water bucket.  At this time FSU had a star back up tailback, a kid by the name of Burt Reynolds, who was very prone to cramping and puking and losing his hair due to his inability to maintain hydration and salts in his system.  On this day as he came to the bench after running two consecutive plays Boucher gave him a drink from the tainted bucket.  After practice Reynolds noticed that he had suffered far less cramping and discomfort after having had some of the Boucher/McVatty magic ellixer.  he mentioned this to Boucher who at the world famous trainers conference brought up the idea of having, "the little crampy guys licking the (what he called) Seminole Firewater off the big fat sweaty guys 'cause it seemd to make 'em less likely to puke and stuff."  He admitted that the team had been loathe to adopt this interesting training method.  Word of the proposal got back to Dr. Cade and he actually applied some thought as to where this disgusting ill-concevied idea came from and what might be the actual benefit being derived from it, and if it could be made to be more palatable.  After much research he came upon the formula for Gatorade and the rest, as they say, is history.
