a big impact on Gator Football this fall:
Jim Tartt. 6-3 315. Does the incredible Hulk ring a bell? That is what the coaches compare him to, say he just goes beserk when he steps on the field. Has won a starting job already based on his devastating run blocking. Just a big old country boy who enjoys inflicting damage on others in uniform. Evidently a real nice guy off field. Look for him to be a cornerstone of our line for several years.
Derek Harvey. 6-4 260. Extremely quick first step, won recruiting battle against the world for this guy. Has put on a lot of weight and added much strength, looks to have won a starting job for the fall at one DE. Should play a lot whether he keeps it or not. Super anchor for our line the next several years and promises to give us a much better pass rush as this was his forte in HS. Sure looked the part in spring.
Reggie Nelson. The hype has been immense for this guy. Acknowledged as the best player in FL his sr year and center of a heated, down-to-the-wire recruiting battle with the SOW, this guy did not make the grades. Went to JC but RS'ed one yr so he has 3 left. Was an AA safety lst yr with 6 int's and an absolute terror on special teams, blocking 4 kicks. Currently working out at CB during summer drills. Reggie has a chance to step right in and shine. Someone once did a study on what seperates a champion from an average player. It wasnt anything physical. It was confidence and the ability to picture themselves succeeding that gave them the edge. Reggie has that. He may not step right in, most don't and sceptics on this board have laughed at my saying he might. But he is not just another player. I think Gators who dont know much about him are in for quite a 3 yr ride, this guy IMHO is the Wilbur Marshall of DB's for us and will elevate us to a top tier D.
Cornelius Ingram. 6-4, 225, fast as the wind and very elusive, yet powerful and physical. What in heck else could you want in a player? Ingram has been playing QB but I see H Back or WR in his future. The coaches have pretty much shut down access to the team this summer so no one knows what position CI is working out at, outside of the athletic office. If he is still at QB, I forsee a quiet yr for him. But if he has moved to WR I see a chance for him to step right up and grab a spot. Ingram at H Back would be a formidable weapon with his ability to pass on the run. The key may be the fact Coach Meyer has made it clear QB is too demanding for a part time player, if Ingram switches to WR he will still be able to play BBall. We will see. Hope he has made the move and is catching rather than throwing. Think Tyrone Young but a lot more fluid and built like a bull.
Markus Manson. 6-0 210 4.4 40. Starting RB out of Spring. Great student. Very elusive, those who have seen him have earmarked him for future greatness. Future may be now. This is a well rounded guy who catches well out of the backfield and knows how to get YAC. Even if Wynn becomes the starter this guy has a chance for a great yr in this O. Power and speed, coaches last year called him the best athlete on the team.
Branden Daniel. 6-4 290. Early entry, has been here for 2 springs and summers and still a FR, so hard to call him inexperienced. Has dropped from 340 to 290, hard working and dedicated. Has a great opportunity to make a move with Hill's problems. Look for him to see a lot of time early this fall. What he does with the chance is up to him but he has the ability to be a bigtime player.
Jason Watkins. 6-6 300 OT. Won him after a heated recruiting battle with LSU. Very mobile and lanky, came in needing to put on weight and add strength. He has done both. Look for him to start getting some good playing time by mid-year. Those who think our OL is down next yr need to look at this guy and Tartt.
Josh Portis. 6-4, 210. Those who saw him in the spring game marveled at how such a young guy could look so polished. Looks to be the perfect QB for the Pope's system. very elusive and fast but with a nice passing touch and very strong arm. If Dickey does not catch on to the system this summer this kid could be our 2nd string and play a lot. Be nice if we have the luxury of RS'ing him.
Jon Demps. 6-4 220 4.6 40. Good student. Committed to SOW on eve of signing day but an fsu site ran the story, our coaches got word, and talked him back down off the ledge. He could play early and often behind EE. A great looking LB prospect.
Daryl Gresham. 6-3 250. Prototypical MLB. His higlight film is like a tackling clinic, when he gets his hands on you, you go down. Viscious hitter. Should give Siler much needed relief in the middle. Great Gator bloodlines.
Michael McIntosh. 6-0 190 4.4 40. He was our top rated guy 2 years ago and Clemson stil hasn't forgiven us for stealing him after he made an early commit to them. As fast as anyone on the field, fluid, good hands. Most expected him to come on last yr but for some reason he didnt. His time may be now. If not, I expect him to xfer, one of those who won't allow himself to sit. Hope he gets it together, he could be one heck of a weapon because he has every tool a WR needs.'
James Smith. WHO? 6-1 225. Has apparently stolen the Long Snapping duties from Patella. And anyone who thinks this is not a key position on the field did not watch the scUM game.
Jonathan Phillips. a F#^#.
