(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 7/16/2005 - 4:36 p.m.) It's the implication that seems to work. Forget the direct insults. If you can identify the ones directed at you, then maybe you can consider using something similar. Here are some typical indirect insults that you might want to consider:
1. Try this: "I didn't call you stupid. I said that what you said is stupid." See the difference?
2. Figure out a writer the person likes and insult that writer. Create an ugly alter-name like "Anthrax".
3. Borrow from someone who ordinarily sides with your party of choice but doesn't on a particular issue. Then, use the best one of all: "insert name here - gets it!"
4. Start any thread title with, "Actually..." or "Au contraire" if you want to sound really smart.
5. Use lots of bold, underlines and highlights.
6. Don't forget the obligatory, "With all due respect." You can easily follow with the not so subtle insult.
