"FWIW on the ES situation..." |
|
(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 7/17/2005 - 10:41 a.m.) and all the debate below.... I'm sure there are some here that have been in similar heated debates with a spouse or significant other. You know how that turned out and what you probably wish you had or had not done the next day. You could have just walked way and cooled off and dealt with it later, but easier said than done in the heat of the moment. Sim's situation could have happened that way. Who knows. We do know something happened. As noted below, I've been through our local police's academy training (a comparable course for citizens, not their course to join the force) and I have all the respect in the world for police, particuarly after going through that, riding around with them etc. I don't personally think a policeman would have such a gross distortion of the issues from what the parties side was, but due process was done. In the absence of a willingness of the girl friend to press charges, it's over. Ernie Sims is a great player. He's actually a good kid from a very good family. He's like the last person on our team I'd have expected to have had something like this happen to him. But... I don't care if it was "just a spat" or the report did or didn't reflect the true story. I don't care what a Channing Crowder or Taurean Charles did in the past or what UF did or didn't do in those situations. I care about my school. The bottom line is that his involvement thrust our school into forefront of the national media's sights. His actions reflect poorly on all Seminoles no matter what we want to think or say. We are once again pressured to try to defend the actions of one of our players. I for one won't do it. There's nothing more to say on it. A black eye for FSU. |
