(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 7/23/2005 - 8:38 p.m.) 1) This 1990 UF offensive line was so athletic and strong. There weren't any slow fatties in this group. They were all agile brawlers who play the angles and use excellent technique... much like how the Denver Bronco linemen are.
2) Has there been a Defensive corp with the collection of "athletes" that this team had? Huey Richardson, Darren Mickell, Tim Paulk, Fee Bartley, Monty Grow, Godfrey Myles, Del Speer etc. We had some stud talent on this team. They were all long, lean, fast, and could hit like trucks.
3) Seriously, what kind of snow job must Ray Goff have pulled on Vince Dooley when he interviewed for the UGA coaching job. This guy is so clearly out-classed. He looks like he's two plays behind in every cutaway they take of him.
4) Bless the Georgia band's heart. Down 38-7 in the fourth quarter and totally getting stomped they still play like they could pull this one out. Their tailback gained all of five yards and they broke into "Glory, Glory... Georgia" like they had just won the Sugar Bowl (which as we know wouldn't happen again for over a decade).
5) People forget just how solid Errict Rhett was at tailback. Faster and more elusive than people gave him credit for. Could run over any linebacker and never fumbled. A great, dependable back!
6) Whew, men's football fan fashions were bad in 1990. From the too-tight, narrow-cut golf shirts, to the mesh-backed Johnny Appleseed shaped hats, to the blue Sansibelt slacks and coaches shorts, these weren't high times in Gator apparel history.
and 7) Are you watching Stuart Scott? Are you watching all you young pimple-faced ESPN clones? Scott's act is rouse. He stole the Boo-Yaa from the 1990 Florida defense and most specifically Timmy Paulk who came up with the saying. Stuart was running 3rd team, part-time weekend achor behind Buddy "I always lead with NASCAR racing despite whatever momumentous event is going on in the sports world" Pittman at WESH-Channel 2 in Orlando when this game was played. Scott was in a small, dirty edit room somewhere cutting highlights of the game and taking notes when he saw the cutaway shots of the Boo-Yaa towels and he never forgot them. Fast-forward a decade and he gravy trains off sports anchor stalwarts like Keith Oberman and Dan Patrick by busting out "Boo Yaa" as his allegedly original catch phrase. What a tool!
