"I can admit it..."

(EDITED BY AUTHOR: 8/10/2005 - 9:53 a.m.)

I grew up playing football, and my first love will always be the game itself, but I like the pageantry of college football.

Before I came to UF seeing the Swamp on TV. Those distinct corners of the Swamp with all that Orange, and it read "Home of the Florida Gators", it gave me goosebumbs the size of golf balls. Now a days I go to every game. There is nothing better than that deafening growl that only Gator fans can make during a big defensive stand, and 90,000+ Gators all singing We are the Boys chokes me up every damn time!!!

I'm impressed watching the Vols or Auburn's players walk through town and campus en route to their stadiums. I like the unique look between the Headges. It's awesome when LSU brings a caged Tiger out on the field, or seeing Texas or Colorado led out by a similar beast. It get's my adrenaline pumping to see the Notre Dame Fighting Irish hit the sign that says "Play Like a Champion Today", or score a TD in front of Touchdown Jesus. To see a flyover or a cannon fire when one of the service academies is playing is truly breathtaking. Hearing the USC or Michigan band strike into their famous fight songs brings a smile to any fall Saturday for me. All that stuff... I love it!!!

And ya know what else??? Seeing Chief Osceola ride out on Renegade, and plant that spear is a damn impressive site to behold!!!! It aint any more offensive than the movie Ben Hur was to me being a person of 50% Italian descent. Also standing in Doak Campbell stadium while 80,000 of the Seminole faithful are doing that silly Warchant gets the adrenaline flowing everytime. There was nothing much sweeter last football than listening to that Warchant, and watching it instantaneously silence as Ciatrick darted into their end zone with 5 minutes on the clock!!! The other half of my ethnic makeup is Irish, and I don't find anything more offensive about that Warchant than a non-Irish person drinking green beers on St Paddy's Day. This Indian mascot stuff is a bunch of political correctness nonsense. I can admit it... Florida State's mascot is pretty damn cool part of college football, and they should keep it forever.
