Let's get the painfully obvious points out of the way.
One, our guys weren't ready to play today. Two, their guys were. And then some. Three, all Gator fans (from lifelong die-hards to the casual bandwagoner) are reeling with disappointment. Four, this is embarrasing. And then some.
However, let's keep our collective heads.
On the "negative" side, this debacle legitimately raises questions about where we are - right now - as a program. I'll be honest; in moments like these I wonder about a lot of important things.
Will Chris Leak grow into the QB Meyer needs to run his system? Should Meyer modify his scheme to Leak's strengths? What's up with our offensive line? Will a running back step forward and establish himself? Is the offense simply a work in progress, or is it a "gimmick" that tough SEC defenses will expose? What happened to that hard-hitting, impenetrable defense?
We all get the idea here. By our very nature, many college football fans are intrinsically prone to over-reaction. It's a passionate game for coaches, players and fans alike. I, for one, can admit I sometimes think, speak, and post out of hot-headed emotion.
Here's the reality - unrealistic fan expectations are a part of Gator football, and always will be. IMHO, there's no point for people on this board to fight about it.
Now, on the "positive" side, let's remember this isn't the end of the world. In fact, let's remember a bunch of things. The 'Ol Ball Coach lost his first big SEC road game by six touchdowns. We've still got that half game lead over Tennessee from the head-to-head win. Georgia's still got to play the Gators and the Vols.
If we regroup, we could very well get a second shot at Bama with an SEC title on the line. Ron Zook is the head coach of the University of Illinois. (Sorry, I couldn't resist....) Meyer is a proven winner who, like his student athletes, deserves a reasonable learning curve.
This loss sucks. But it's always great to be a Florida Gator. So let the blowhards vent to their hearts' content.
