Its that time of year again. The weather in North Florida is beautiful, at least after Wilma. Time feels like its standing still. No one can concentrate at work. Plans are made. Condos are rented. Tickets are purchased. Theres not much to do but wait. At times like this a Sports page is absolutely worthless. You know theres going to be nothing that really matters in the morning paper until this Sunday.
In addition to the delight of beating a rival, each team has enormous stakes riding on the outcome. For Georgia, even if the Rose Bowl is a stretch, its really special to go undefeated, and this is one of the main obstacles standing in our way. Also, VT has more than one chance to lose, and USC still has to play UCLA....We could get out there yet if we can hold up our end of the bargain. For Florida, you pull off this upset, and anybody who saw Kenny Irons run the ball last Saturday night knows that you may well have landed yourself in the SECCG. As disappointing as the season has been to this point, thats not such a bad way to begin the Urban Meyer era.
3:30 kickoff is just perfect. It gives everyone plenty of time to enjoy themselves Saturday before half of us go home with our lives and dreams crushed. And it also gets us out into the early evening with much revelry and mirth to follow.
I pray they never move this game. I pray we all keep the good health to enjoy this one and many more to follow.
