I know such advice may be hard to take from someone with a bottle and diaper, but bear with me for a minute.
We lost another one. We look pretty bad right now. But the season isn't over, and some so-called fans are ready to fire the coach??? Others are saying we should fire Jeremy Foley??? Unbelievable! We apparently have become much, much, much more spoiled than I ever imagined.
We have posters who only show up on this board when there is something bad to say. They have never joined in threads about things that are good news for the Gators. This kind of person seems to live for the chance to say, "I told you so." Well, I have this to say to them: I feel sorry for you. It must be terrible to live in such a world of perpetual doom and gloom. Get a life! This is a game! If you can't get some sort of enjoyment out of it, maybe you should find some other hobby.
The thing that bothers me the most, however, is the incredibly juvenile behavior of some so-called fans who boo their own team. In my book, there is never, ever any excuse for this. It is never OK. It is juvenile and rude and classless and mean. The young men on the field are out their risking their bodies for our entertainment, for goodness sake. Booing accomplishes absolutely nothing but to make them lose their confidence even more than they already have. They know their performance is poor. They don't need you to remind them.
So we suck. We've sucked worse than this. Maybe many of our fans don't remember, but we weren't always dominant. This is the time for real fans to stick together behind our team. Criticize all you want, but give our coaches and our players a real chance. And, if all you can do is criticize, please, please get a life.
Folks, this looks like it's going to be an awfully tough season. You may as well decide now whether or not you can take it. I already know we can't end up 0-10-1, so I'm confident I can take whatever lies ahead. Believe it or not, despite our team's performance, I enjoyed myself last night. I spent time with friends before and after the game, I got to meet another fellow VSer , I cheered until the last minute (as loud as I could, since there were so few others helping), and then I stayed and sang the alma mater with what little voice I had left. And, win or lose, I'll do the same the rest of the season. And next season. And the season after that. All because it's great to be a Florida Gator.
Through all kinds of weather, we'll all stick together for F-L-O-R-I-D-A.
