For those of us who can;t see them, your posts were quite enjoyable
Should I be flattered by your subject line or insulted by your post?
Just for you, honey...a quick analysis of the team so far this season...
Starters...
I LOVE JOAKIM NOAH!! This kid is such a great Gator! He's a super sweet, smart kid who just gives it his all every time he steps on the court. He feeds off the crowd and they feed off of him--he is most definitely the fav of the Rowdy Reptiles. He's shown he can play, too. He's fairly agile for a big guy and he's not at all afraid to really go for the tough rebound. He will be a huge contributor for this team in both skill and attitude.
Al Horford is a real talent under the basket, and he's starting to try to broaden his game with the long jumper. Ill-advised? Perhaps, but it's nice to see him try. He is also a terrific fighter with a great attitude.
Corey Brewer. What can I say?? The kid just scored the first triple-double in school history! And on top of that, he is a stealing/blocking machine! Those long arms can reach from one end of the court to the other and turn up in the most unexpected places. For being so gangly, he is remarkably agile. He is probably the best all-around player on the team.
Taurean Green? I love it when I'm right, which is pretty much always. I knew from the first time I saw this kid last year that he would be better at point than Peep, and he certainly is. He may not be the shooter that Roberson was, although he's certainly not too shabby, but that's not his job. He runs Billy's offense soooooo much better and he doesn't make many mistakes. I told you so.
Lee Humprey for threeeeeeeeeee! I love hearing that again and again and again! This kid has made us come to expect that his shots will go in. It's almost a surprise when they don't. He also serves as a decent replacement for Green at point.
Subs...
Chris Richard continues to develop and seems to be much more confident and not so overwhelmed this year. He takes up a lot of space under the basket and, therefore, contributes most on defense.
David Huertas has gotten a lot of playing time during the pre-conference season, and I look for him to be the main freshman to play as the conference play begins. He seems pretty mature for a young kid and has a pretty deadly long-range shot when he's hot.
Walter Hodge will be a terrific player in a couple of years. He's good now but seems to get rattled easily. Once he gets used to the college game, I think he'll be outstanding. His size may be the only real barrier. He does look like a shrimp out there.
Adrian Moss, bless his heart, continues to do whatever he can to help out this team. He doesn't get a lot of PT, but he is pretty solid as a back-up when the more talented players need a breather. He also spends a lot of time on the bench coaching up the younger players. His maturity and leadership will be more and more important as the season wears on.
Walk-ons...
Garrett Tyler and Jack Berry continue to work their butts off for this team. They haven't gotten many minutes during the pre-conference games and will get fewer once the conference season begins, but their contribution can't be overstated. Brett Swanson is new this year and is probably the most capable of the three. It is clear that the rest of the team loves these guys. They went absolutely beserk on the Gator bench today when Swanson sunk a three to give the Gators 100 points.
Coaches...
I feel like we are seeing a very well-coached team this year. BD has said that this team is the most coachable he has ever had, and it shows. I believe I expressed my concerns here about having a bunch of spoiled brat sons of rich dads on the team, but that could not be further from reality. These rich kids aren't distracted by dollar signs. They are playing because they love the game. That's just like BillyD. BillyBall is back and I love it!
I'm afraid we will lose at least one assistant coach to a head coaching position after this season and that worries me a lot. It took us quite awhile to recover from the loss of Pelphrey on the sideline. This is a pretty cohesive bunch, so I hope we can keep them together for at least a couple more years.
All in all, I am extremely excited about this team and this season. The whole season has such a FUN feel. It's reminiscent of the 1993-94 season of overachievement. A repeat of that season would be more than OK with me!
Go Gators!!
