After first viewing the replays on Sportscenter Sunday night, I was like "wow, they aren't really calling these dunks are they?" My head dropped back down to tinkering on the computer and forgetting what I'd seen. But after seeing the firestorm it created here yesterday by both Vols and good folks trying to help women's sports move ahead...I have decided that this isn't worth resisting and certainly not forgettable. I am going to side with those who view this as an opportunity to show how far women have come and say, "wow, that's not bad...for a woman...top 1% of 1% b-ball player". It really seems a bit insulting to women to view it that way to me really, but I'm not the leader of such movements. I'll have to trust the experts. Actually, I felt like I was insulting women when my head popped up from my computer Sunday night to see these highlights as if to say "wow, I gotta see this, I didn't think women were capable." (although it has been done before and will again more often in the near future, I'd guess). And then I felt it was even more insulting towards women the way ESPN handled it, basically..."Look everyone, holy #badword#, which was more impossible man on moon or this?". And now the Hall of Fame. But I'll just have to accept that this reaction is what moves women's sports and equality in general forward. Now if only NASCAR would put good guy Bill Lester's 38th place finish in Atlanta Sunday in their soon to be Charlotte Hall of Fame. Because, as progressive ESPN would surely say, "Holy #badwrod#, can you believe a black man could drive a car somewhat fast? We only thought they could eat watermelon." Doesn't seem like that would move race relations forward to me (seems like going backwards to frame it that way)...but I'm not the leader of such movements. I'll have to trust the experts on these things.
