"A few thoughts...."

1) Billy D - I have always loved his style.  Even with the recent "poor showings" in the tourney, I looked at the overall picture.  Never before has our program had the consistency to get to the tourney every year, let alone as a minimum 5 seed every time.  This year, he did a masterful job.  It looks to me like he made every loss a lesson, and the kids learned it very well.  As far as him leaving, that's his prerogative.  I just don't see it, though.  He has built this program.  He has developed strong ties along with his family in the Gainesville community.  Bottom line: Billy IS Florida basketball.

2) I honestly think now that Lee Humphrey is the difference.  When he wasn't 100%, we didn't have the outside game, and teams knew it.  Now that he's got his health (and stroke) back, they can't defend us that way any more.  A month ago, he couldn't hit anything, and you could tell he was laboring.  Just before the SECT, however, things started coming around.

3) The way we've played in the tournaments reminds me more of how we started the season.  Great ball movement and great intensity on the floor.  I'm extremely impressed with the poise of the entire team.  When the opponent goes on a run, the Gators don't get flustered.  Clutch free throws, timely shooting, solid defense.  Frankly, I'm still trying to get accustomed to these traits.

4) I love the bench play.  Chris Richard is my personal favorite off the bench, but Huertas, Hodge and Moss have all done great.  The dropoff when they're in has been minimal.  When you can substitute quality players, it makes it that much more difficult for your opponent.

5) As for next year, we should be a great team again.  However, there's so much that can happen.  There were several games this year that could have gone either way.  A few bad breaks here and there, and you never know.  If the Georgetown player hits that wide open 3, who knows what might have happened?  In the long run, it doesn't matter....I'm just enjoying this ride.  In the first half of the Georgia game, this team hit a low point, IMHO.  They looked completely lost.  They were in the middle of a mediocre stretch, and they seemed to have started coming apart.  I don't know what happened, but since the second half of that game, they've been a joy to watch.....and they look like they're having a great time doing it.
