Your last post was 12/25/2005 - 3:49 p.m. Wow. Sounds like a confessional.
Ok, father, forgive me for I have sinned.
With your Final 4 appearance, and imminent national championship, Mud's marriage (cool), and some very kind emails from close friends here recently, it's time to quit pouting. Came over today to wish you well tonight and swallow my pride.
Owe you an apology. Gonna be honest. After the last 3 football seasons, this year's 34-7, recruiting deficits, the longevity of Jeffy, etc. - it's depressing. I began to realize that we have little to look forward to until Bowden's retirement. Part of the meanness and hatred between FSU and Florida lately in mind is Florida State fans realizing that they have slipped over the past five years and Florida if anything has improved under Urban Meyer after one year. We see the trend and don't like it at all. However since Bobby Bowden is in control of our program we can't move him on until he is ready to move on and it hurts to see him slipping like he has lately.
Guess the true colors came out after the Gators have been kicking our a$$e$ in every sport. Jealousy breeds contempt!
I admit, Noles had a grand ole time on this board when you were at each other's throats during the Zook years. I would take a jab half way joking but halfway series...then get pi$$ed at the responses. My posts of "friendly rivalry" turned into very bitter animosity and I did very little to hide it. What were once good-natured jabs became increasingly more and more acerbic and meaningful.
But I came to realize that the only fans that seem to feel this way are Nole fans. Not Vols, not Dawgs, not Aubies. And this change being described occurred about the same time Florida started winning. I created many of my own problems by trying to dance the thin line between lighthearted friendly smack and subtle flame. I liked pushing the buttons of those who would react, and then sit back and watch the fun. Gradually, I posted less and less as a "friendly" rival and seemed unable to forget my "Noleness" and only interested in stirring the pot.
In retrospect, perhaps FSU fans have less of a sense of humor and UF fans have more of a swagger. I admit to getting too worked up over things on occasion. I tried some other boards, but they just weren’t the same. I miss the good ol' days that I remember on here, when there was a humor-gun slinging self-deprecation to the board...when people would try to out-do each other with how they could make other people laugh
Fun on a rival board starts from within. I think I started to lose sight of that.
Good luck tonight.
